OEEC Receives PA Keystone Award for Brownfield Redevelopment

Congratulations to Jerome Shabazz on delivering the Keystone Address at the 2026 Brownfields Conference and to Overbrook Environmental Education Center (OEEC) for receiving the 2026 Keystone Award for stakeholder engagement.

In his presentation, “Social Architecture for Sustainable and Resilient Communities,” Mr. Shabazz showcased the successful remediation of the Overbrook Farmacy / Nature Works project (on our OEEC campus) in West Philadelphia. This extensive cleanup on the 6100 block of Lancaster Avenue involved removing approximately 100 tons of lead-impacted soil, 1,400 tons of steel, 280 tons of concrete, and 52 tons of debris.

A distinguished leader in environmental protection and public health, Mr. Shabazz brings nearly 30 years of experience to sustainable community development. As the Founder and Executive Director of JASTECH Development Services, Inc., he has spent over 28 years championing environmental justice and urban infrastructure. In 2002, he established the Overbrook Environmental Education Center to empower vulnerable communities through the preservation of natural and built environments, cementing his reputation as a leading authority on land reuse and civic engagement.
